Tuesday’s Affirmation – I am free to be myself

July 6, 2010 |  by Michal Spiegelman  |  Affirmations  |  2 Comments

(I am taking a day off from my hospital blog to honor my commitment to post an affirmation blog every Tuesday)

“Don’t allow anybody to make you feel that you’re nobody. Always feel that you count. Always feel that you have worth, and always feel that your life has ultimate significance.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In October of 1967, six months before he was assassinated, King spoke in Philadelphia and said these beautiful words. I saw this quote when I visited the King Center in Atlanta and remembered it while reflecting on the Fourth of July.

Years ago, I did not feel that I have worth. I felt that I was not good enough. I wasn’t sure about life’s significance. I was unhappy, negative and miserable. It was suffering and pain that led me to search for a different meaning for life. It was suffering and pain that served as my “wake up call”.

Today I am happy and healthy and enjoy the freedom of being myself and loving my life. Several practices helped me get to where I am. Reiki and meditation were definitely an important part of the process. The Hoffman Process I did a few years ago was a huge part of my journey, as well as finding a program of recovery to deal with my food addiction.

I am grateful to all the Reiki and Meditation masters.

I am grateful to Bob Hoffman.

I am grateful to Kay Sheppard.

I am grateful to Martin Luther King.

I am free to be myself

Tuesday’s Affirmation – I am open to give and receive LOVE

June 28, 2010 |  by Michal Spiegelman  |  Affirmations  |  Comments Off

Sophocles, one of the most famous playwrights of ancient Greece, said: “One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life. That word is LOVE.”

Why is love so important?
Is love an emotion or a behavior?

Can we be happy without giving or receiving love?

In addition to repeating the affirmation, “I am open to give and receive LOVE,”

I invite you to ask yourself those questions and to search inside yourself.  What is the true meaning of love to YOU?

With this affirmation you have an opportunity to personalize the phrase so it fits your needs. Where do you need improvement… giving love or receiving love? Phrase it in order (I am open to receive and give love -or- I am open to give and receive love) depending on your priority. To embody giving and receiving love, exhale when you say giving and inhale when you say receiving. Say the affirmation while paying attention to your breath.

Tuesday’s Affirmation – I step into my power and enjoy being who I truly am

This week’s affirmation is connected to the Solar Plexus Chakra (energy center) located in the upper abdomen, between the lower chest and the navel. The Solar Plexus Chakra is all about power, courage, will, drive, ambition and self esteem. With those qualities, we have unlimited possibilities: to work, create change, take action, get up and go. What actions should you take to balance your power center, to be able to step into your power?

Tuesday’s Affirmation: I am safe to get in touch with my feelings

June 15, 2010 |  by Michal Spiegelman  |  Affirmations  |  Comments Off

Why is it important to get in touch with your feelings?

Because it makes you happier and healthier. How? By getting in touch with your feelings you actually move the energy forward, letting it go and making space for new feelings and emotions to enter. It is unhealthy to hold on to feelings for a long time. It creates a blockage and it feels “heavy” on your heart. For example, let’s say that you are grieving for a loss. The sadness you are feeling is normal and it is important to accept it. You should allow yourself to connect to that feeling, to get in touch with the sadness, but your intention should always be – to move forward. Not to get stuck. Whenever you are ready – release it. Take the risk of getting in touch with the pain, with the sadness, knowing that it is only a feeling: It has a beginning, middle and an end. Nothing is permanent. Remember: whatever you feel is OK, as long as you are aware of it. There is no right or wrong. But it is your choice if to stay “stuck” or to move on.

Get in touch with your feelings – it will allow you to move on.

Our thoughts create a reality

Our thoughts create our feelings

If we change the thought – we change the feeling

If we change the feeling – we change our reality
We can do it. How? First , by being aware and understanding that being stuck in pain, negativity and blame is not healthy for our body/mind/spirit. When we understand that concept, then we are ready move on and take some actions. The simplest technique is using a daily affirmation. Affirmations are positive thoughts or statements about some outcomes you wish to achieve. They need to be said in present tense, like they are happening now. (“I am….” rather than “I will…”) They need to be connected to specific outcomes. You might benefit from getting some help from people who are experienced in using affirmations when you start working with them.

Eventually, you will get used to creating the right affirmation for any situation. You should practice your affirmation using as many senses as you can: Say it out loud. Write it many times. Post sticky notes with your daily affirmation in different places in your house and work space. Record it, and listen to it. It takes practice. Eventually you will be able to hear the affirmation “above” the negative thought, whenever that thought presents itself.
