Tuesday’s Affirmation – I am free to be myself

July 6, 2010 |  by Michal Spiegelman  |  Affirmations

(I am taking a day off from my hospital blog to honor my commitment to post an affirmation blog every Tuesday)

“Don’t allow anybody to make you feel that you’re nobody. Always feel that you count. Always feel that you have worth, and always feel that your life has ultimate significance.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In October of 1967, six months before he was assassinated, King spoke in Philadelphia and said these beautiful words. I saw this quote when I visited the King Center in Atlanta and remembered it while reflecting on the Fourth of July.

Years ago, I did not feel that I have worth. I felt that I was not good enough. I wasn’t sure about life’s significance. I was unhappy, negative and miserable. It was suffering and pain that led me to search for a different meaning for life. It was suffering and pain that served as my “wake up call”.

Today I am happy and healthy and enjoy the freedom of being myself and loving my life. Several practices helped me get to where I am. Reiki and meditation were definitely an important part of the process. The Hoffman Process I did a few years ago was a huge part of my journey, as well as finding a program of recovery to deal with my food addiction.

I am grateful to all the Reiki and Meditation masters.

I am grateful to Bob Hoffman.

I am grateful to Kay Sheppard.

I am grateful to Martin Luther King.

I am free to be myself
